National Philanthropy - Alpha Chi Omega Foundation

Local Philanthropy- YWCA Oklahoma City

On top of helping to support the philanthropic causes of our fellow Greek organizations, members are dedicated to raising awareness and educating others about domestic violence.

The 1992 Alpha Chi Omega National Convention marked the adoption of domestic violence awareness as our national philanthropy. This issue is one we stand behind as something that affects women all over the world. Together, we can work to educate ourselves and others with the goals of preventing domestic violence, reducing the stigma victims can experience, and decreasing the physical, mental, emotional and financial impact it can cause. Members also work to aid domestic abuse victims by volunteering for or donating to women's shelters. Locally, we support the YWCA Oklahoma City.

Healthy Relationships Week 2019

Domestic Violence Awareness

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so every year we devote one week during October to be our chapter's philanthropy week. We have events every day and a table outside the cafeteria to try and spread awareness to our campus. Our biggest event comes at the end of the week when people can come to the AXO House and pay $5 for all-you-can eat pizza and pie! Our theme for DVA Week 2016 was "Domestic Violence Knows No Gender" in an effort to remind people that that violence affects both women and men.

Healthy Relationships Week

Our spring philanthropy week comes every February during the week of Valentine's Day. Rather than focusing on the darker side of domestic violence, we use this week to educate our peers on what healthy love is, and what it means to have a healthy relationship. One way we do this is through our #LoveIs campaign on social media where sisters share what love means to them. The theme for Healthy Relationships Week this year is "First Love Yourself" or "FLY with Alpha Chi" in the hopes that we can help people build a strong foundation for love by starting with self-love. Our week will end with our event "Donut Let Love Hurt" where you can pay $5 for all-you-can-eat donuts!

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please CALL 911.

For crisis and counseling services, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or TTY 1-800-787-3224.

Hotline advocates are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year to provide confidential crisis intervention, safety planning, information and referrals to agencies in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
